I don’t own the property, are there any benefits for landlords?
The short answer is absolutely. With the addition of a Solar PV system, a landlords property is going to be far more desirable to rent, even more so as energy prices rise and EPC requirements are enforced. In 20 years once the PPA comes to an end the ownership of the system is passed to property owner. As a system is likely to have a life of 30—40 years this means that the landlord can then charge the tenant for the electricity they use.
What if I don’t use all of the energy that the system produces?
The energy that you do use from the Solar PV will be metered, so you will only be billed for your actual usage.
What if I chose to sell my property during the period of the lease?
The lease is transferable and can be taken on by the new owners. Alternatively the lease has a buy out clause which can be actioned.
What are the extra benefits if we purchase a Solar PV system outright?
You would see not only the savings in electricity as you will use the energy you generate for free within your business but would also benefit from an income from the Feed in Tariff. This is a Government incentive scheme which signs you up to receive a payment for every kWh your generate for a period of 20 years. It will also help to reduce your carbon footprint.
